Barunga Village Staff Accommodation project receives planning approval
Barunga Village is pleased to announce that its staff accommodation project in Port Broughton has received planning approval, marking an important milestone in supporting workforce growth and the continued delivery of high-quality care and services.
Since first announcing the project in 2025, significant planning and design work has been undertaken. Pascale Construction has now been appointed as the building contractor, with construction expected to commence from mid-July.
The development will deliver three purpose-built duplexes on Bay Street, providing six fully equipped one-bedroom accommodation units for newly recruited Barunga Village employees relocating to the region.
Barunga Village Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Carroll said the project is an important investment in the organisation’s workforce and its ability to continue delivering high-quality care and services to local communities.
“We are delighted to have reached this important milestone and look forward to seeing construction begin in the coming weeks,” Elizabeth said.
“Access to suitable housing remains a challenge across many regional communities. These units will provide practical support for employees relocating to the region and help them settle into both their new roles and the local community.
“By providing accommodation during this transition period, we can better attract and support skilled workers, strengthening our workforce and helping ensure we can continue delivering high-quality care and services.”
Construction is expected to commence from mid-July, with completion anticipated in March 2027.
Community members may notice increased activity around the Bay Street site in the coming months, including site preparation works, installation of temporary fencing and project signage, contractor visits and increased vehicle movements associated with construction works.
Barunga Village will work closely with Pascale Construction to minimise disruption wherever possible and appreciates the community’s patience and support as this important project progresses.
“We are grateful for the support provided through the Australian Government’s Aged Care Capital Assistance Program, which has helped make this project possible,” Elizabeth said.
“This project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting our workforce and ensuring we can continue delivering high-quality care and services to the communities we serve.”
